Can you recognize an online threat? Are you certain you’ve protected your online information?

Cabarrus County’s Information Technology Systems (ITS) Department will host free community conversations on cyber security throughout April. Learn how to browse the internet safely; the risks of using public Wi-Fi; how to protect your home wireless system, mobile phones and devices; and get a refresher on email safety.

• Wednesday, April 6, 6 p.m., Kannapolis Branch, 850 Mountain St.

• Wednesday, April 13, 6 p.m., Harrisburg Branch, 201 Sims Parkway.

• Tuesday, April 26, 6 p.m., Concord Branch, 27 Union St. N.

• Thursday, April 28, 6 p.m., Mt. Pleasant Branch, 8556 Cook St.

Cabarrus ITS Director Debbie Brannon says she looks forward connecting with residents through the series.

“Using the internet is no longer a preference—it’s a way of life,” she said. “Our employees have a set of skills from which residents can benefit. We want to answer their questions, make cyber safety less confusing, and help people understand they can manage it and keep their information secure.”

The Cyber Safety library talks are part of Cabarrus County’s Government Month community engagement initiative.
