EAST SPENCER — The East Spencer town board is continuing to look at making improvements to dilapidated structures and hopes a joint committee with the county is the answer. The board plans to appoint business leaders and others to the committee at its Monday meeting.

There are property owners who owe taxes to the town and the county, said East Spencer Town Administrator David Jaynes, who added both East Spencer and the county are looking at those who are delinquent.

Jaynes said there is the possibility the town could explore foreclosures on these delinquent properties.

The hope is to prevent these properties that are in disrepair from being a blight on the town, he said. In addition, Jaynes said, there is also a potential health concern to people regarding these structures.

County Attorney Jay Dees, along with fellow attorney Bryan Wymbs, spoke with the board at its March meeting about options that were available to the the town for starting the foreclosure process.

The board will also:

• Approve its board retreat report which includes ideas from the brainstorming session and prioritized goals for the future.

• Appoint representatives to the Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency executive board.

• Discuss support of the NC Department of Transportation Park Central Bicycle Plan.

There will also be a budget session following the meeting. Jaynes said it is the first of an expected three meetings. He said he expects during the Monday meeting the public works, police and zoning departments will make their budget requests. However, he does not expect any decisions to come from the budget session this soon.

The board will meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. inside council chambers, 105 S. Long St.
