Lowman passes
Bob Lowman died on Tuesday.
Lowman, who was a standout athlete at East Rowan in the 1960s, was an integral part of Rowan County American Legion baseball for many years as team manager.
He was recently inducted into the North Carolina American Legion Hall of Fame.

Prep baseball
The annual Easter tournament at the Intimidators Stadium in Kannapolis begins today and continues on Thursday and Friday.
Salisbury is the defending champion.
Today’s 1st round:
11 — Carson vs. Lake Norman
1:30 — Parkwood vs. Robinson
4 — South Rowan vs. Salisbury
6:30 — A.L. Brown vs. NW Cabarrus

College baseball
Catawba’s Chance Bowden was named SAC Baseball Player of the Week.
Bowden, a sophomore from Salisbury High, had 13 hits, nine doubles and nine RBIs to lead the Indians to a 5-0 record.

East Carolina’s Eric Tyler (South Rowan) stayed hot on Tuesday, going 4-for-4 in a 9-6 win against UNC Wilmington.
Tyler had three singles and a double.

North Greenville’s Matt Laurens (North Rowan) is pitching well out of the bullpen. Laurens has a 1.59 ERA in 13 appearances.

Pro baseball
Pitcher Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) was released by the Detroit Tigers on Monday. He’s a free agent and can sign with any team.

The St. Louis Cardinals have released former Catawba lefty Nick Lomascolo.

College softball
Catawba’s Carley Tysinger was named SAC Softball Pitcher of the Week. Tysinger had three wins and a save and struck out 38 hitters in 25 innings.

College baseball
Thirty-nine GARS golfers played in foursomes at Lexington
39 members played their own foursomes at Lexington Golf Club.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Tim Messenger with a net of 68.04. Low ‘B’ Flight player was Bobby Bryant with a net of 70.91. Low ‘C’ Flight player was Jim Brown with a net of 69.79.

Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart’s girls soccer team won 4-0 against Salisbury Academy.
Caroline Cardelle scored two goals. Rachel McCullough and Theresa Holland had one each.
Keeper Caroline Clark had her first career shutout.

NCHSAA
Nick Jodway of Draughn and Haley Cashwell of Cape Fear are the NCHSAA performers of the week.
Jodway, a pitcher/centerfielder, struck out 19 in a no-hitter against Burns.
Cashwell went 5-for-8 with a homer, 4 RBIs and three runs scored.
