Eric Tyler (South Rowan) hit a pair of home runs and drove in an East Carolina single-game record eight runs in Saturday’s 13-0 win against Jacksonville.
Tyler, a junior, had a three-run homer in the first inning and belted his first career grand slam in the eighth. He also had a sac fly.
Tyler is batting .323 with four homers and 23 RBIs.

Prep golf
East Rowan’s golf team finished fourth in the Championship Flight in the 19th annual Palmetto High School Golf Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
East Rowan High School shot a team score of 302 in Saturday’s final round.
Saturday’s top four scores for East were Nick Lyerly (71), Logan Shuping (73), Ben Rollins (79) and Christopher Queen (79).
For the tournament, Lyerly finished fourth at 138 and Shuping tied for 16th at 146.
Bryson Sprinkle shot a 70 on Friday and finished at 153.
Rollins finished at 155, with Queen at 166.

Prep baseball
The East Rowan Easter tournament at Staton Field continues on Monday.
1 p.m. — North Rowan vs. Central Cabarrus
4 p.m. — West Rowan vs. West Iredell
7 p.m. — Greater Cabarrus Stallions vs. East Rowan
Tuesday’s games
1 p.m. — Greater Cabarrus Stallions vs. West Rowan

Mid. school baseball
North Rowan won 18-14 against Erwin.
Jordan Goodine went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer.
Blake White pitched five innings and went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Jonathan Spry had three hits , with two doubles.
Travis Berry and Chase Shoaf also pitched for the Mavericks.
North is home on April 5 against Knox.

College lacrosse
Catawba’s men lost to Tusculum, 11-6, at Shuford Stadium on Saturday.
Ben Boyd scored four goals for the Pioneers.
Catawba (3-5, 2-2 SAC) got two goals from Justin Lynch.
Catawba travels to Coker on Wednesday for a SAC contest.

Catawba’s women’s team won 15-7 against Tusculum on Saturday at Shuford Stadium.
Nicolette Salay scored four goals for the Indians (4-4, 2-1 SAC). Bethany Davis recorded eight saves.

Braves tie Mets
KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Jacob deGrom pitched six-plus strong innings and drove in a run as the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves played to a 10-inning 3-3 tie Saturday.
Braves starter Bud Norris allowed two runs on four hits, struck out five and walked three.
Norris and deGrom combining to retire 17 of the 18 batters.

Hurricanes fall
RALEIGH — Cal Clutterbuck scored a deflected goal with 13.8 seconds left in overtime, and New York beat Carolina, 4-3, on Saturday.
Victor Rask, Jeff Skinner and Jeff McClement scored during a second-period flurry for the Hurricanes. Eddie Lack stopped 27 shots.
