John Owen took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and Ike Freeman drove in five runs as East Rowan won at Robinson, 9-3, on Tuesday in SPC baseball.
Owen (4-1) was replaced by reliever Colby Myrick after giving up a leadoff hit in the seventh.
Freeman had a bases-clearing double and a two-run homer for the Mustangs (7-2, 5-2 SPC). Jordan Wise had three hits, including a homer.
East plays at unbeaten North Davidson tonight.

Maddux Holshouser pitched six shutout innings as Carson beat Northwest Cabarrus 5-1 to stay tied for first place in the SPC.
Holshouser (3-0) allowed four hits and a walk and struck out seven.
Cameron Prugh pitched the seventh.
Brandon Mock sparked Carson’s offense with two doubles and three RBIs.
Owen White, Ben Shoaf and Brandon Newton also had doubles.
Carson (7-2, 6-1) took a 2-0 lead in the third and made it 4-0 in the fifth.
Carson plays another league game tonight at Hickory Ridge.

West Rowan won 8-3 at Concord in SPC action on Tuesday. West put together four-run innings in the second and the sixth.
The Falcons (8-2, 6-1) got six innings on the mound from Bryan Ketchie (4-0), who struck out six.
Both teams had seven hits. Drew Yoos and Matt Panner had two hits each for the Spiders.

North Rowan opened CCC play with a 16-1 romp over Lexington.

Sawyer Strickland tossed a two-hitter and struck out seen to lead the Greater Cabarrus Stallions to a 3-0 win at Shelby.
McConner Wallace had two hits. Seth Cauble and Noah Jarrett drove in runs.
The Stallions will play Central Cabarrus at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Staton Field.

Prep golf
East Rowan shot 150 at Rocky River and won Tuesday’s SPC golf match by 14 strokes over Concord and Hickory Ridge.
Medalist Logan Shuping shot 34 to lead the Mustangs. Bryson Sprinkle shot 37, Nick Lyerly shot 38, and Ben Rollins shot 41.
Other team scores were Carson (167), Robinson (186), Cox Mill (190), NW Cabarrus (195), West Rowan (197), South Rowan (197) and Central Cabarrus (214).
Patrick Street shot 40 for Carson. Tristan McDaniel shot 41, and Robert Bauer and Joseph Mitchem carded 43s.
Parker Chavis shot 40 to lead South, while Andrew Hubbard shot 44.
Davis Tadlock shot 46 for West, while Dalton Kepley shot 47.

Prep track
A.L. Brown sophomore Cambrea Sturgis competed in a field of mostly college runners at the 49ers Classic track meet on March 18-19.
She ran 23.86 in a 200 meter prelim (ninth on the all-time state list).
Sturgis finished second in the 200 final, running 23.93.
She ran 12.04 in a 100 meter prelim for another personal record.
Sturgis is coached by Tim Dunlap and is a member of the Salisbury Speedsters Elite Track Club.

Prep basketball
Robinson’s Lavar Batts Jr. was named a first team All-State player by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.
Concord’s Rechon Black was a third-team pick.
East Davidson’s Bayley Plummer made the girls first team.

Prep soccer
Salisbury won 4-1 at Ledford.
The Hornets fell behind two minutes into the match, but came back to improve to 7-0-1.
Julia Honeycutt took a ball unassisted from midfield to beat the keeper for the Hornets’ first goal.
Honeycutt scored on an assist by Katie Bullock to give the Hornets the lead.
Ellen Simons got her second goal of the season on an assist from Kayla Honeycutt.
The final goal was scored by Bullock on an assist from Nellie Brown.
Salisbury got outstanding play from Kathryn Rusher.
Salisbury hosts East Davidson to start conference play tonight at 6 p.m.

Prep softball
West Rowan routed Concord 20-6 and moved into a three-way tie for first place in the SPC with Cox Mill and Central Cabarrus.
Cox Mill beat Central 4-3 on Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Peyton Greene drove in three runs for the Falcons. Taylor Martin, Mary Sobataka, Morgan Corriher, Savannah Cline and Alex Linder drove in two each.
Martin had three hits. Peyton Greene, Sobataka, Corriher and Parker Greene had two each.
West (8-2, 6-1) scored nine runs in the third inning.

College softball
Catawba’s Carley Tysinger was named SAC Pitcher of the Week. Tysinger, a senior, struck out 26 in two wins and had a no-hitter.

College baseball
Catawba’s baseball team won 10-6 at Barton on Tuesday in 10 innings.
Will Albertson led off the 10th with a double, his third hit, and scored on a single by Sam Laws.
The win was the 699th for Catawba coach Jim Gantt. Chance Bowden drove in two runs for the Indians. Bryce Fowler scored three runs. Jeremy Simpson had three hits and two RBIs.
Catawba used seven pitchers. Avery Bowles pitched two scoreless innings for the win. Riley Myers started and pitched into the fourth inning.
Catawba plays Pfeiffer at 5 p.m. today at Newman Park.

Catawba’s Malachi Hanes was named SAC Baseball Player of the Week Hanes, a junior, had seven hits and three homers in four games.

Brian Bauk (Salisbury) had three hits and Matt Vernon (Davie) drove in two runs, but App. State lost to UNC Asheville 8-3 on Tuesday.

Local golf
Thirty-six GARS members played in foursomes at Warrior.
Low A Flight player was Tom Talbert with a net of 65.26. Low B Flight player was Ron Ervin with a net of 66.54. Low C Flight player was Bobby Bryant with a net of 64.58. Low D Flight player was Harry Agner with a net of 73.85.
Clayton Steele, O.J. Chandler, and J.C. Ritchie shot scores below their ages.

Youth soccer
The FCCA U12 soccer team, the Green Dragons (3-4-1), won 5-2 over a regional opponent over the weekend. Scoring were Christopher Portillo with four goals and Maddox Goodnight with one.
Colin Donaldson, Ben Childress, Ben Sweet and Nick Antosek led the defensive effort.
