Salisbury Fire Department and American Red Cross to canvas Morian Park to install smoke detectors

The Salisbury Fire Department and Southern Piedmont Chapter of the American Red Cross are teaming up to install smoke detectors in the Morlan Park neighborhood.

The fire department and Red Cross will canvas the 300 residences surrounding the 600 block of Gold Hill Drive to install smoke detectors where needed. They will also share fire safety messages.

The walk-through will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, beginning at Southside Baptist Church, 500 Morlan Park Road.

Going door-to-door to install smoke detectors usually happens after tragic fires occur in a neighborhood. In January, a Morlan Park resident was severely burned after her home caught fire. The resident did not have a working smoke detector.
