Salisbury Police arrested a Salisbury man Thursday and charged him with driving drunk with children in his vehicle.

Nicholas Jack Buchanan, 30, was charged with misdemeanor child abuse, impaired driving in a commercial vehicle, failure to reduce speed and reckless driving, according to police reports.

Buchanan was involved in an accident on Thursday at the intersection of West Innes Street and North Craige Street in Salisbury. Salisbury Police spokeswoman Capt. Shelia Lingle said Buchanan had just picked up his children — ages 2 and 5 — from daycare.

The report said Buchanan had a blood alcohol level of .12. His two children were in the vehicle when he was involved in the accident.

Lingle said the accident involved injuries, but the extent of injuries was unclear.

Buchanan was booked into the Rowan County jail under a $7,500 secured bond. He remained in jail Friday morning.
