Hinkle Family in concert at Resurrection Life

On Sunday at 6 p.m. the Hinkle Family will be in concert at Resurrection Life Church of Salisbury, 216 S. Main St.

The Hinkle Family travels 365 days a year, coast to coast, ministering in nursing homes, retirement centers and churches. They have been traveling full time since 2001. In the past 13 years, they have ministered at 9,157 services, visited more than 1,271,736 souls and traveled over 1,438,477 miles in 28 states. As they do at each visit to Rowan County, the Hinkles ministered in six different retirement centers this week in the Salisbury area. A love offering will be received for the family during the Sunday service. Spaghetti dinner fundraiser

MT. ULLA — A spaghetti dinner will be held Saturday today from 5:30-7 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 11020 Hwy 801, to raise funds for MS victim Gina Connelly Bond to have her dog trained to be an assistance dog.

St. Stephen’s Lutheran fundraiser

GOLD HILL — The Lutheran Men in Mission of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 4401 St. Stephen’s Church Road, will hold their annual BBQ fundraiser on today from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. at the fellowship hut.

There will be ribs, chicken, beef and pork at $9 per plate. Proceeds benefit some congregational ministries and local community ministries such as the Mt. Pleasant Food Ministry, Nazareth Children’s Home, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and St. Stephen’s Playschool.

Mount Zion UCC observes Lent

CHINA GROVE — The third Sunday in the season of Lent at Mt. Zion UCC, 1415 South Main St., begins at 9:30 a.m. for breakfast. Program speaker will be author John Freeze and the discussion will include his recent book, “Straighten The Path.” A special time for children and youth will be provided by Abi Kennett, youth minister. During the 11 a.m. service, the third Sunday of Lent will be observed with the lighting of the Candle of Bread-Bringers.Afterward, the youth fellowship will visit members of the church family at home and in nursing facilities. The Rev. Black history service at Word of Life

There will be a special service celebrating Black History at Word of Life Family Worship Center, 726 East Liberty St., on Sunday at 3 p.m. featuring displays of Black history through dance, song, readings and special skits portraying famous African-Americans. Deaconess Cynthia Sloan-Bailey — who holds a masters degree in African-American Literature and English from NC A&T State University and a bachelor of arts in English from Livingstone College, is director of the Word of Life Education Department — will speak. The Education Department is sponsoring the service and proceeds from the service will go toward the church scholarship fund. High school seniors who are members of the Word of Life Congregation have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship ranging from $500 to $1,000.

19th Crossover Kannapolis service

KANNAPOLIS — The 19th Annual Crossover Kannapolis service will be held at Centerview Baptist Church, 415 Walter St., on Sunday at 6 p.m. and will include choirs from five area churches as well as the men’s choir from Teen Challenge. For Race Relations Month, the service seeks to crossover barriers that sometimes separate churches, i.e. denomination, race and worship styles. Participating churches include Bethel AME Zion, Centerview Baptist, Kannapolis Church of God, Marable Memorial AME Zion and Sandy Ridge AME Zion. A love offering will be taken to go to the ministry of Teen Challenge. Jazz Vespers return to St. John’s 

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St., will host Jazz Vespers at 7 p.m. next Saturday, March 5, in the chapel. The hour-long event features the Joe Robinson Band and vocalist Diana Tuffin. A reception follows the service.

 

Joint Lenten services in Chestnut Hill 

Three congregations in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood, Coburn Methodist Church, Haven Lutheran Church and St. Paul Episcopal Church, will come together during Lent for Wednesday night Bible Study at 7 p.m. A meal will be served at 6 p.m., prior to the Bible studies. Area pastors will lead the Lenten study on “Encounters with Jesus.”

The Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship (IMF) Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for the 2016 IMF Treasure Feamster Scholarship. Applications will be received through April 1, 2016 and must be postmarked by this date. The scholarships are available for high school seniors who are members of an IMF affiliated church, regardless of their chosen field of study.
