A Salisbury man whom authorities say was engaged in a dating relationship with a teenager has been charged with rape. The mother of the teen also faces a felony charge.

Genaro Alvarado Jr., 20, of the 2600 block of Airport Road, Apt. A, was charged with felony statutory rape. The mother, whose name is not being released to protect the alleged victim, was charged with felony child abuse.

An arrest warrant said Alvarado did have sex with the young girl, who was 15 at the time and he was 20 at the time. The incident is said to have occurred July 1, 2015 through January 28, the warrant said.

An arrest warrant also says the mother allowed the “sexual act” to occur. The mother was issued a $75,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.

Alvarardo has since been released from the county jail under a $20,000 secured bond.
