Tornado watch issued for Rowan, region

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 7 p.m. today for a region including Rowan County.

The watch is in addition to the current flash flood watch in effect until 6 p.m. today and a wind advisory in effect until midnight.

A tornado watch is issued when conditions for tornados exist; it does not mean one has been sighted or is imminent.

According to weather.com, the tornado watch covers parts of South Carolina and North Carolina. It includes Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte and Wilmington in North Carolina and Columbia and Florence in South Carolina.

At least seven tornadoes hit Mississippi and Louisiana on Tuesday. Three people were killed and dozens of people were injured. Forecasters are warning of more tornadoes today.
