MLK Park groundbreaking

Pastor’s anniversary at Antioch Missionary Baptist

GRANITE QUARRY — Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 602 S. Slisbury Ave., will celebrate 12 years of Pastor Rickey Johnson and First Lady Peggy Johnson on Sunday at 3 p.m. At 11 a.m. the speaker will be Antioch’s own associate minister, the Rev. Linwood Buford. The speaker for the 3 p.m. service is the Rev. Arthur Heggins, pastor of Salisbury’s St. Luke Baptist Church.

Men’s Day at White Rock AME Zion

Bishop Charles Hash to speak

EAST SPENCER — Bishop Charles Hash will speak at Love Christian Center, 102 N. Long St., on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Bishop Hash received his honorary master of divinity and doctor of divinity from New Life Theological Seminary in Orangeburg, S.C. He is the founder and member of Southwest Virginia Revival Team which travels the Eastern United States preaching revivals and camp meetings. Bishop many books include “The New Breed Walking Tall,” “Soul Ties & Sexual Sins,” “The Making of A Man of God” and others.

Bishop Hash is brother to the pastor, Bishop W. Ronald Hash.

 

Dr. Mark Creech to speak at Calvary Baptist

On Sunday at the 11 a.m. service, Dr. Mark Creech is the guest speaker at Calvary Baptist Church, speaking on the importance of Christians being involved in the legislative processes.

Dr. Creech has led the Christian Action League of N.C. as its executive director since 1999.  Prior to becoming CAL director, he served as a pastor for 20 years. Currently he serves as a lobbyist in the NC General Assembly and works to stop legislation ranging from attempts to promote a homosexual agenda to the advancement of more legalized gambling in the Tar Heel state.  His efforts have also been responsible for getting some important pro-family pieces of legislation through the General Assembly.

Erwin Temple Mass Choir celebrates 20th anniversary

Erwin Temple Mass Choir observes its 20th anniversary on Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest choirs are   invited to participate. The Mass Choir will be in concert for the first part   of the celebration. Benefit concert at New London UMC

NEW LONDON — New London United Methodist Church, 206 S. Main St., will host Daniel Dickens for a concert of classical and gospel selections titled “Songs for Chloe” on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Dickens is a music educator in the Stanly County School System and serves at pianist at New London UMC.

For this concert he will be joined by Rod Almond and Blake Fraley on several of the songs. This concert is part of New London UMC’s Music in Mission Concert Series. While there is no admission fee, a love offering will be received to assist Chloe Fraley, who was severely burned last November and has undergone multiple skin grafts.

 

Immanuel Lutheran hosts Lenten service and meal

ROCKWELL — The Lenten evening service is Sunday in the Immanuel Lutheran Church fellowship building. Prior to the service Immanuel members will provide a covered-dish meal, which begins at 6 p.m. followed by the service at 7 p.m.  The Rev. Bruce Sheeks, host pastor, will speak.

Teresa Moore-Mitchell & Friends will be in concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 W. Innes St. Moore-Mitchell will be partnering with her students at Catawba and Livingstone colleges, accompanied by Dr. Phillip Burgess, Catawba’s director of choral activities.

 

United Ministerial Alliance jount service

The United Ministerial Alliance will host its joint worship service at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Lilly’s Chapel Church of God, 618 W.Thomas St. Elder Agnes Partee-Brown, associate minister at Love Christian Center of East Spencer, is the guest preacher. Annual singing for cystic fibrosis

Joint Lenten services in Chestnut Hill 

Three congregations in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood, Coburn Methodist Church, Haven Lutheran Church and St. Paul Episcopal Church, will come together during Lent for Wednesday night Bible Study at 7 p.m. A meal will be served at 6 p.m., prior to the Bible studies. Area pastors will lead the Lenten study on “Encounters with Jesus.” All the Bible studies and meals will take place in the Haven Lutheran Church fellowship hall, 207 W. Harrison St.

 

Black History program

St. Luke Baptist Church in Hawkinstown will be presenting a Black History program on Feb. 28 at 3 p.m.  The program will include Ministers Toni and Anthony Smith, the St. Luke Youth for Christ and other groups. The Rev. Arthur L. Heggins is host pastor.

Southern City honors Rev. Massey
