RALEIGH — Livingstone’s women took care of last-place St. Augustine’s here on Wednesday night, topping the Falcons, 56-48, in CIAA college basketball action.

The Blue Bears improved to 13-11 overall and 8-7 in the CIAA. St. Augustine’s fell to 3-22 and 0-15.

St. Augustine’s had a terrible shooting night, making just 15 of 70 shots from the floor (21 percent), including two of 22 from the three-point arc. The Blue Bears were a little better at 30 percent from the floor (20 of 66) and 29 percent from three-point land (7-of-24).

Guard Zena Lovette led Livingstone with 19 points, the only player in double figures. Senior center Wende Foster followed with nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Brittany Taylor also scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.

St. Augustine’s had one player in double figures — Sycoya Dorsey, who led all scorers with 24 points.  She also had 10 rebounds. Shelby Stokes grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Falcons but scored just five points.

Livingstone concludes the regular season on Saturday at Winston-Salem State with a 2 p.m. tipoff. The CIAA Tournament will begin in Charlotte next Tuesday.

In the men’s game, Livingstone fell to St. Augustine’s, 70-64.

The Blue Bears trailed at halftime, 38-32, and with the lost, couldn’t move ahead of the Falcons. Both teams are now 6-9 in the CIAA. Livingstone is 11-16 overall while St. Augustine’s improves to 11-14.

Ty Newman continued his good work for the Blue Bears, leading the team with 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting. He made one free throw.

Cordero Holt and Daryl Trynham followed Newman with 10 points each. Nasir Austin paced the Livingstone rebounding with seven boards.

Quincy January led St. Augustine’s with a double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Gaskins led the Falcons in scoring with 22 points.
