The W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center is going red in support of Women and Heart Disease month. It will host a Women’s Health Fair in partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.

The event takes place on Friday, Feb. 19 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Building 6 in the gymnasium. All attendees are encouraged to wear red.

The Women’s Health Program will host a “New Year, New You” Health Fair with participation from disciplines throughout the hospital. Services participating in the event include, but are not limited to, cardiology, health promotion/disease prevention, nursing, food and nutrition, MOVE Program, My HealtheVet, pharmacy, tai chi/yoga demonstrations, patient education and whole health.

Educational information will be disseminated to participants at the health fair, and the information will also be made available in clinics after the event.

The objective of this program is to improve the quality of life among female veterans by educating them on the importance of living a heart-healthy lifestyle. Participants will learn the importance of knowing and keeping track of their own personal health information. They will learn that heart health is more than just healthy eating and exercise, and making small adjustments to their daily routines can have a powerful impact.

The event is open to veterans and employees of the facility.
