A Livingstone College student was killed on her way home to Fayetteville on Friday night.

Administrators confirmed on the college’s website that Ayonna Tellis, a senior at the school, was en route to her home when, when according to the N.C. Highway Patrol, a vehicle crossed the median of the highway and struck her car head-on. There was no information given as to the exact location of the accident.

After being notified of the accident, Dr. Jimmy R. Jenkins, Sr., president of the college, talked with Tellis’ mother to express condolences to the family on behalf of the college.

Jenkins explained that counselors will be on hand at the college to assist students grief-stricken by the tragedy.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

A moment of silence was held for Tellis, prior to Livingstone’s home basketball games on Saturday.
