Area Sports Briefs: CCC tournament starts Monday

The Central Carolina Conference basketball tournament begins on Monday.
North Rowan’s boys will be seeded first, while Salisbury’s boys will be seeded second.
North Rowan’s girls will be seeded second, while the Salisbury girls will be seeded third.
Salisbury’s girls will host No. 6 seed West Davidson at 7 p.m. on Monday. Admission is $5. Only CCC and NCHSAA passes are accepted for that game.
The winner will advance to play North Rowan in the girls semifinal on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Lexington High School.
The championship game is Friday night.
Salisbury’s boys have a first-round bye and will play in the boys semifinal on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. vs the winner of the 3/6 matchup.
Both North teams will have first-round byes.

Admission for all the games at Lexington is $6.

7th-grade hoops
Erwin’s boys won 43-12 against China Grove.
Vincent Jones led the Eagles with 10 points. Jake Hunter scored seven, and Landon Shuping had six.
The Eagles play at Knox on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

China Grove sports
China Grove youth baseball and softball registrations are at Dale’s Sporting Goods in China Grove until March 12.
Fees for baseball are $65. Divisions are:
5-6 Coach Pitch, 7-8 Pitching Machine, 9-10 Junior Division and 11-12 Senior Division.
Softball fees are $65.
Divisions are:
6-9 Machine Pitch $ 65
10-12 Senior Division (Girls Pitch)
After Feb. 20, the late fee is $75. League age is as of April 30, 2016.

Register now for girls and boys high school basketball leagues at East Rowan YMCA.
These are county-wide leagues for grades 9-12 (ages 14-18). Registration ends on Feb. 20.

Rowan Little League
Rowan Little League baseball and softball Registrations are from 9-3 on Feb. 13t at Godley’s Garden Center on Statesville Boulevard.
Parents can also register online anytime at http://www.rowanlittleleague.com.
New this year is T-Ball softball for girls, ages 4-6. League age is as of Aug. 31, 2016
Baseball cost is $75 for all leagues: T-ball (ages 4-6), Coach Pitch (ages 7-8), B (ages 9-10), A (ages 11-12) 50/70 (ages 11-13) and 13-16’s. League age is as of Aug. 31, 2016.
Softball cost is $75 for all leagues: Girls 6U TBall Softball, 8U Coach Pitch (ages 6-8) 10U (ages 9-10), 12U (ages 11-12), 14U (ages 13-14).
League age is as of Dec. 31, 2015.

College basketball
Augusta’s Keshun Sherrill (West Rowan) had 22 points an eight rebounds in an 88-80 loss to Flagler on Wednesday.

Golf fundraiser
There will be a helicopter golf ball drop fundraiser for Warrior’s Junior Golf program at noon on Saturday, Feb. 20.
The cost is $20 per ball.
Balls will be numbered in order of purchase and dropped from helicopter over driving range target green. The four balls closest to the target hole win one-year memberships, ranging from platinum to gold.
There will be a silent auction associated with the event. You do not have to be present to win.
