THOMASVILLE — Ho-hum. Another week, two more blowouts for the unbeaten East Davidson girls, ranked second in the state (2A).

Friday night, the Eagles roared to a 22-2 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 74-35 Central Carolina Conference win over visiting Salisbury. East moved to 19-0 overall, 6-0 in the league behind 20 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks from Appalachian State-bound Bayley Plummer. Madi Hallman, a Catawba commit, added 14 points, eight assists and seven steals in yet another East game that was over essentially from the opening tip.

East coach Don Corry shrugged at the notion that the Eagles actually missed out on a good opportunity this week, when their nonconference showdown with 4-A power Northwest Guilford was scratched Wednesday to make room for a CCC game with West Davidson that was snowed out last week. “I don’t know if it’s that tough or not,” Corry said. “North Rowan gave us a good ballgame, and we’re gonna play them probably two more times.

“I need time in the gym for practice. Starting Wednesday, we had six games in 10 days coming up, if you don’t count the weekends. So, I think the girls will step up when they need to.”

They stepped up from the very beginning Friday. Bailey Grimsley hit a pair of free throws on the first possession, Hallman hit two more from the stripe, Kendall Simmons knocked down a 3-pointer and Brooke Anders fed Plummer in the lane for a score. Just like that it was 9-0, and the rout was on. Bryanna Troutman scored inside to get Salisbury on the board, but East scored the next 13 points to turn it into a yawner.

Anders added 11 points for the Eagles, and Caitlin Lookabill – coming back from an injury that has kept her out all year – came off the bench to score 10.

Troutman paced the Hornets (11-8, 3-3) with 20 points.

East will play at Thomasville on Tuesday.
