A Salisbury woman remained in the hospital Monday after she suffered serious burns in a fire at her Gold Hill Drive home.

Carlon Gibbs Hillian, 55, escaped the fire Sunday morning and was found lying outside her home in the 600 block of Gold Hill Drive by three off-duty firefighters. She suffered burns on her back and arms. The fire began around 8:30 a.m., and within minutes the first fire unit arrived.

The firefighters moved Hillian away from her house and stayed with her until she was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. She was later transported to the burn unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she remains in serious condition.

Salisbury City Fire Marshal Terry Smith said the investigation is ongoing and a cause has not been determined. He said fire investigators have to talk with the homeowner to obtain more details about the fire. Because she is still in the hospital, they’ve been unable to do so.
