Local Bridge with Myrnie McLaughlin
Published 12:00 am Sunday, January 24, 2016
Over the past weeks we have paused giving hints on bidding and play. Today we’ll resume technical issues and look at Texas Transfers.
This explanation is taken directly from Carol Winecoff’s lessons from Another House of Bridge. This is used as a response to partner’s opening of 1NT, or 2NT.
If responder has a 6 card major and game going points in his hand but no interest in slam he responds 4 diamonds to indicate 4 hearts or 4 hearts to transfer to 4 spades. Opener follows the convention and responds accordingly. But if you as responder have slam going points, follow the usual transfer bidding and proceed from there.
We were missing a full table from our Friday, Jan. 15 game. Carol Bachl, Judy Gealy, Pat Macon and Fern Albracht took advantage of the Morganton Sectional and won some points. Congratulations.
Winning at the Evergreen game Jan. 15 were: N/S First, Tom Johnson and Nancy Brandt; second, Andra Cozart and Jan Glover; third, Toni Iossi and Maggie Canup; E/W First, John and Myrnie McLaughlin; second, Georgia Sorensen and Wade Lowder; third, Becky Creekmore and Patty King.
