South Rowan’s girls basketball team won 62-23 at Northwest Cabarrus on Thursday.
Freshman Janiya Downs led the Raiders (3-14, 2-9 SPC) with 19 points.
Jolee Smith and Malaysia Williams scored eight each. Riley Corriher had seven, and Kamryn Stamey and Taziah Hardin had six apiece.
Northwest Cabarrus won the boys game, 73-58.
East Rowan hoops
East Rowan’s girls lost 57-36 at Concord on Thursday in SPC action.
Shenell Pharr scored 14 points for the Mustangs (10-8, 5-7). Shenique Pharr scored eight, and Jocelyn Lowe had seven.
Jalliyah Cannady scored 14 for the Spiders (8-9, 6-6), and Jada Black had 10.
Concord sat out three starters, but won the boys game, 89-63.

Carson hoops
Carson’s girls basketball team lost 66-51 at Robinson on Thursday in SPC play.
Carson (10-8, 6-6) lost its sixth straight game.
Carson led after a quarter, but Robinson turned the game around by outscoring the Cougars 18-5 in the second quarter.
“We made 10 3-pointers, but we couldn’t make layups,” Carson coach Brooke Misenheimer said. “We scored a lot in the second, but we could’t get stops, so we were just trading baskets.”
Olivia Gabriel led Carson with 20 points. Micah Furr made four 3-pointers and scored 12. Taylor Wiggins had nine points, and Kailie Ketchie had eight.
The Cougars played without McKenzie Gadson.
Jada McMillan made 13 straight free throws and scored 19 for the Bulldogs (6-9, 5-6). Asia Boulware had 14.
In the boys game, Carson was outscored 88-71.
Daniel Spencer had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
For Carson, Jamarius Hairston scored 16, Brenden Westbrook had 15, and Cameron Prugh scored 13.

Carson’s girls stayed unbeaten with a 27-17 win against Robinson.
Tayler Harwood scored nine points for the Cougars, and Montana Gurganius had six.
Defensive standouts were Shaleah Jolly and Sarah Musselwhite.
South vs. West
South Rowan and West Rowan have moved Friday’s scheduled game back to next Wednesday.
SPC hoops
Hickory Ridge’s eighth-ranked girls won 81-51 against Central Cabarrus in SPC play on Friday.
Gabby Smith scored 20 points for the Ragin’ Bulls, while Stacia Means had 17.
Mahaley Holit led the Vikings with 28 points.
LC hoops
The scheduled CIAA men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader between Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith, previously scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23 has been postponed to Sunday due to the threat of dangerous winter weather.
The women’s game will get underway at 1 p.m.
College football
Shawn Clark, a former All-American at Appalachian State and 15-year college football coaching veteran, has returned to his alma mater as the Mountaineers’ co-offensive coordinator (running game) and offensive line coach, head coach Scott Satterfield announced on Thursday.
NCHSAA
Alliyah Chaplin of Chapel Hill and Sage Surratt of East Lincoln High School have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards.
Chaplin had a double-double last week against Cardinal Gibbons High School with 21 points and 12 rebounds in the decisive 52-38 win over the Lady Crusaders in non-conference play.
Surratt, a junior at East Lincoln, hit six 3-point shots in a 91-57 win last week over the Maiden Blue Devils, scoring a total of 50 points.
Middle school
Mooresville won 48-40 against Knox in the boys middle school championship game on Thursday.
For Knox, Jahquez Smith had 16 points, and Jabril Norman scored 15.
Mooresville got 15 points from Peyton Brown, 13 from Shawn Wilson and 12 from MVP Malik Birchett.
Salisbury Academy
Salisbury Academy’s varsity girls lost 28-24 to North Hills.
Madelynn Castor and Virginia Robertson had six points each for the Jaguars.

Mitch Jeter scored 10 points. Charlie Barr and Archie Dees had eight each.
North Hills
The North Hills elementary school boys basketball team lost to Statesville Christian 28-17.
Kemon O’Kelly scored six points. Que Sloan and John Paul Shadroui had five each.

Abigail Zunk had seven points, and Ashley Mays had six.
Morgan Humble had 13 rebounds. Elizabeth Jones had nine rebounds.
In North Hills’ 28-24 win against Salisbury Academy, Jones scored 10 points. Zunk had seven, and Bethany Hogan scored five. Humble had 12 rebounds.

Chase Davidson scored 26 points. Steven Johnson had six points, and Devon Mitchell and Pacey Watts scored fiv each.
In a 34-31 win against Statesville Christian, Davidson had 10 points. Jonathan Mosher had eight points and nine rebounds.
Mitchell had six points and seven rebounds. Johnson had nine rebounds.
Intimidators
The Kannapolis Intimidators are hosting a job fair on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the stadium from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to find employees to fill out the game day staff for the upcoming season.
