West Rowan’s girl baketball team won 60-38 against visiting Mooresville on Wednesday in non-conference action.
Egypt Alexander and Mary Sobataka scored 15 points each for the Falcons (14-2). Taylor Martin had nine points, and Shanice Miller added eight.

Mooresville (12-5) held off West Rowan’s boys (5-11) for a 66-57 victory.

Jada Black scored 16 points to lead Concord’s girls to a 37-30 win over A.L. Brown on Wednesday.
Shemya Stanback and Kyla Downs scored seven each for the Wonders.

Rechon Black scored 25 points, Ray Kowalski had 17, and Hamsah Nasirildeen scored 16 as Concord’s boys beat A.L. Brown 85-72.

In North Rowan’s 77-46 CCC win at Thomasville on Tuesday, Josh Handy scored 18 points.
Jalen Sanders (16), Joseph Scott (14) and Henderson Lentz (11) also were in double figures for the Cavaliers.
North (14-2) led by only two points after a quarter in a physical game but took charge in the second quarter. North led 38-24 at halftime.
“Thomasville was very aggressive and it was like a football game in the first quarter,” North coach Andrew Mitchell said. “We settled down and played good basketball.”

North’s girls (11-5) got 19 points each from Special Washington and Aliyah Farmer and pulled away from Thomasville in the second half for a CCC victory.

Many games that were scheduled for Friday have been moved up to tonight because of weather concerns, including Salisbury at North Rowan, Carson at Robinson, and East Rowan at Concord.

Salisbury’s basketball games at Thomasville that were postponed last week (leaky roof) were rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 25.

Middle schools
In semifinal games on Wednesday, Mooresville’s boys won 34-33 against North Rowan, and West Rowan’s girls won 63-46 against Erwin.
In today’s championship games at Knox, Mooresville’s top-seeded girls will take on West Rowan, and Knox’s top-seeded boys will battle Mooresville.

College indoor track
Georgia Southern’s Rebecca Parker (West Rowan) finished second in the 5000 meters in the Wake Forest Invitational.
Parker ran a personal best 18:53.

In the Virginia Tech Invitational, North Carolina Central’s Christa Landy (West Rowan) and Jaleesa Smoot (Salisbury) finished 10th and 11th in the 400.
Landy ran 58.42, while Smoot was timed in 58.60.

College swimming
Queens sophomore McKenzie Stevens (Salisbury) won the 200 butterfly in 2:05.50 in a recent meet with Lenoir-Rhyne.

College lacrosse
Catawba was picked fourth by the SAC women’s lacrosse coaches in the annual preseason poll.
Queens earned eight of nine first-place votes and is the favorite to win the league.

Sacred Heart hoops
Sacred Heart’s varsity girls won 20-19 against Hickory Christian.
Rachel McCullough made a game-winning foul shot with 2.3 seconds on the game clock.
McCullough scored 10 points. Hannah Smith had 6. Theresa Holland led the defense.
