Thanks to the generosity of the employees at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center and its Community Based Outpatient Clinics, the hospital recently not only met its $100,000 goal for this year’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), but exceeded it.

CFC is the world’s largest annual workplace charity campaign, with almost 200 CFC campaigns throughout the country and overseas, raising millions of dollars each year. Pledges made by federal, civilian, postal and military donors during the campaign season (Sept. 1 to Dec. 15) support eligible nonprofit organizations that provide health and human service benefits throughout the world.

This year, the Salisbury VA Medical Center staff raised $129,281. Salisbury VA Medical Center Director Kaye Green said the donation is just one more way the hospital can partner with the local community.

“Even though we’re part of the federal government, first and foremost we are part of this community. Our staff members have families here, we work here, we shop here – and we need to support our local community, and I think that’s exactly what we’ve done,” she said. “I am so proud of the staff here at the Salisbury VA Medical Center for their generosity and engagement in this community in terms of meeting and exceeding our CFC goal.”

Green continued, “After doing aid work in a less fortunate country last summer, it really hit home for me this year how blessed we truly are. We have services available to us when we are in need in this country, which other countries don’t have.  But those services are only possible because of the generosity of the Salisbury VA Medical Center staff and others like them who support CFC. We can always depend on our employees to reach out and help those in need. For that, I am most grateful.”
