Comedian/musician/evangelist Barry McGee

ROCKWELL — Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road, will host Christian comedian/musician/evangelist Barry McGee this evening at 7 p.m., and again on Sundy at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The three-time “Comedian of the Year” uses humor and costuming to portray Biblical characters, which captivates audiences of all ages. He has performed with Lee Greenwood, Ricky Skaggs, and Charlie Daniels, and is a shop chaplain for NASCAR teams.

Each of the three events this weekend will be a different presentation. A love offering will be received to defray McGee’s costs.

Anniversary celebration includes stage play tonight

ROCKWELL — Pastor John K. Geter and First Lady Emma Geter’s fourth  pastoral anniversary will be celebrated at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church, 508 Watkins St.

The family stage play “Prayer Changes Things — When We Pray” will be presented at the Pastor’s Anniversary Family Night Out Celebration this afternoon at 4 p.m. The play is sponsored by SMMBC Youth, Family and Friends.

Special services continue on Sunday at 3 p.m. with guest speaker the Rev. James Milton II, pastor of Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church in Concord.

Dinner will be served at 1:30  p.m.

 

Mount Tabor UMC

Mount Tabor United Methodist Church (just north of Ellis Park on Old Mocksville Road) begins a special series on Sundays at 11 a.m. regarding Sabbath rest and 24/6 living. Guests receive a free book.

Liberty AME Zion celebrates 138 years

UMA of Salisbury-Rowan honors MLK Jr.

The United Ministerial Alliance of Salisbury-Rowan   will “Honor the Life and Legacy” of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St., where the Rev. William D. Turner is pastor.

Bishop W. Ronald Hash serves as President of the UMA.  The guest preacher is the Rev. Dr. Clifford A. Jones Sr., pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Dr. Jones has a bachelor of science degree from Maryland State College; the master of divinity and master of theology degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest and the doctor of ministry degree from Boston School of Theology. He studied at Regents Park College, Oxford, England and Baptist Theological Seminary, Ruschlikon, Switzerland. He has served as the Senior Minister of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, since 1982.

 

MLK prayer breakfast at Sandy Ridge

Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church will celebrate the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with a community prayer breakfast on Monday at 9 a.m., in the Aggrey Building adjacent to the sanctuary.   The theme for the program is “We’re Dreaming with Dr. King.”  Donte’ Hill, a youth member of the church and student at South Rowan High School, will be the speaker for the event. Other participants will be Jaise Rivens, Isaiah Harrison, Taylor Wiggins and Andre’ Sheely.

The Rev. Clarence J. Shuford Jr. is host pastor, Michael Allison and Adrain Scott are youth ministry directors,  Terry L. Jackson Jr. is the prayer breakfast coordinator, which is sponsored by the Young Adult Christian Ministry (YACM) of the church.

 

Matthew Weaver to perform benefit concert

GQ family dinner night in the works

GRANITE QUARRY — Granite Quarry Fellowship,  111 S. Salisbury Ave., is making plans to serve the community a free dinner from 6-8  p.m. the last Friday of every month, starting Jan. 29, so that families can benefit from time together at no cost.
