Authorities say a fight over $100 landed three people in jail and sent a pregnant woman and a man to the hospital.

The incident occurred Tuesday around 11:30 p.m. in the 700 block of China Grove Highway, Rockwell. Rowan Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to the location and upon arrival found one man on the ground with obvious injuries, a report said.

Scottie (also Scotty) Lee Lewis, Jr., 25, and Joshua Luke Jones, 27, both of the 700 block of China Grove Highway, Rockwell, were each charged with felony common law robbery and felony assault with serious bodily injury. Both Lewis and Jones remain in the Rowan County Detention Center, each under a $75,000 secured bond.

Cassandra Gay Durden, 47, of the 700 block of China Grove Highway, Rockwell, was charged with misdemeanor simple assault. She remains in the Rowan County jail under a $2,500 secured bond.

Witnesses said earlier in the night, two men robbed Cody Gulledge of Gold Hill of $100. They identified the two assailants as Lewis and Jones.

Gulledge’s friends, Joshua Yost and Brandy Dixon, went to retrieve the money from the two men when they were attacked, a report said.

Dixon, who is 16 weeks pregnant, said she tried to shield Yost from kicks to the head and face. In the melee, officials said Cassandra Durden kicked a pregnant Dixon in the stomach.

Yost was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center where he was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said Yost had several facial and rib fractures. Yost was listed in critical but stable condition.

The extent of Dixon’s injuries is unknown.
