Gladys Montieth celebrates 100 years

Gladys Alma Montieth, born here in Salisbury, NC on Jan. 6, 1916, celebrated 100 years of living on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016.

She was married for 67 years to the late William Clearance Montieth. She has two children, Peggy Whitley, with whom she resides, and the late Nolan Montieth. She has six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

She is a long-standing member of Dunns Mountain Baptist Church. She has been a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 31 for more than 50 years. She is also a member of the Woodmen of the World.

She worked at Cartex Mill for more than 43 years and after that she was a homemaker. She enjoyed baking and in fact, entered and won several contests for her cakes.

She and her husband Clearance took ceramic classes together for about two years. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
