Goldman Scholarship recipients

The Goldman Scholarship was presented to three 2015 graduates from Salisbury-Rowan Schools. This four-year scholarship is administered under the auspices of the Salisbury Branch of the American Association of University Women in memory of Helen Sokol Goldman and Julius L. Goldman.

Cassidy Nicole Brisson, daughter of Patricia Brisson and Paul Brisson, graduated from Salisbury High School. Ms. Brisson is attending UNC-Chapel Hill. Jennifer Rae Compton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Ray Compton, Jr., graduated from Rowan County Early College. Ms. Compton is attending Appalachian State University. Iona Alysha Wilson, daughter of Mary Wilson, graduated from East Rowan High School. Ms. Wilson is attending N.C. A&T University.

The Goldman Scholarship Fund awards educational scholarships to female students through a competitive process that considers academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need. Also considered are references and the applicant’s statement of her personal aspirations and educational goals.

Dunbar Scholarship recipients

Two descendants of former students of the Dunbar School received $500 scholarship awarded by the Dunbar School Alumni Association, Inc. on the basis of their academic achievement and service to local schools or communities.

Tanya Thomas is enrolled at Rowan-Cabarrus community college where she is pursuing an Associates’ Degree in Medical Office Administration. Ms. Thomas is the daughter of association member Edna Davis Thomas.

Dock Harrison Corpening, III is a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he plans to concentrate in the field of Biology. Corpening is currently attending the university on a football scholarship. Corpening is the grandson of Association member Kathleen Corpening and the son of Martina and Dock Corpening, Jr.
