An Affordable Care Act (ACA) Enrollment Fair will take place Tuesday, Jan. 12, at the Civic Center, 315 Martin Luther King Blvd. S. This free event will be held from 4:30-7 p.m.
The Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010 offering healthcare coverage to those previously unable to participate. On hand at the enrollment fair will be certified ACA counselors to guide people through the healthcare.gov application. Bring proof of income, medication list, list of preferred providers, date of birth and Social Security numbers of all family members needing coverage.
Additionally, the following organizations will be on hand to assist residents who may not qualify for ACA and/or need assistance finding providers:
- Community Care Clinic of Rowan County – a free medical, dental and pharmacy clinic for adults
- Novant Health – providing health screenings and flu shots
- Department of Social Services – screening for Medicaid eligibility
- Rowan County Health Department – information about the dental program
- Cabarrus-Rowan Community Health Centers – providing primary care and prevention services to residents of Cabarrus and Rowan counties on a sliding fee scale
- The Center for Prevention Services – offering programs to help prevent substance abuse and providing for a drug free workplace.
- Daymark – mental health and substance abuse services
The ACA open enrollment period ends Jan. 31. For eligible individuals electing not to enroll during tax year 2016, the penalty will rise to 2.5 percent of income, or $695 per adult and $347.50 per child, to a maximum of $2,085.
