Boys
No. 1 Salisbury (9-1)
Championships: 14
Runner-up: 6
All-time record in Moir: 63-42
Coach: Bryan Withers (1st year at Salisbury)
Top players: Seniors DeShawn Troutman (954 career points) and D.J. Alexander are returning all-county players. Newcomer Isaac Baker had a 30-point game against Trinity.
Outlook: Four big guys, plus tremendous backcourt quickness. Shooting is up and down, but size and quickness is a recipe for a championship.

No. 2 North Rowan (7-2)
Championships: 8
Runner-up: 6
All-time record in Moir: 55-49
Coach: Andrew Mitchell (6th year, 126-28, 2 Moir boys titles)
Top players: Senior Jalen Sanders was Rowan County Player of the Year as a junior and has scored over 1,200 points. Reliable Joseph Scott and explosive Josh Handy are double-figure scorers.
Outlook: North is always the biggest obstacle for the Hornets. Salisbury has the edge on paper this time, but the Hornets’ senior group is O-fer against Mitchell and Sanders.

No. 3 Davie (7-3)
Championships: 5
Runner-up: 4
All-time record in Moir: 42-45
Coach: Mike Absher (14th year, 3 Moir championships)
Top players: Sophomore Cooper Wall is the most talented. Nic Starnes is the floorleader. Heath Slabach rains 3-pointers. Jordan McDaniel gets 15 quiet points nightly.
Outlook: Davie plays fast and gets up a lot of shots. If the War Eagles are hot, they’re capable of winning the tournament. If not, they could go 1-2.

No. 4 Mooresville (6-3)
Championships: 0
Runner-up: 0
All-time record in Moir: 2-1
Coach: Mike Micklow
Top players: Junior guard Noah Allen averages 15 points per game. Rowan fans will remember Corban Usry, who started his prep career at Salisbury, and Tay Davis, an all-county player at East Rowan last season.
Outlook: Don’t overlook the Blue Devils. Mooresville has won four straight. The Blue Devils lost to Davie in the first round last year, but they beat North Rowan and Salisbury in consolations.

No. 5 Carson (6-4)
Championships: 0
Runner-up: 1
All-time record in Moir: 11-14
Coach: Brian Perry (10th season, 107-135)
Top players: Sophomore Jamarius Hairston (12.7 points per game) and junior Brenden Westbrook (10.3) are long, athletic guys. Soph Cameron Prugh (9.1) and junior Malon Herron-Cuthbertson (9.3) are dangerous from the 3-point line. Owen White (9.3) is a sophomore who plays like a senior.
Outlook: Carson was the 0-3 team in the tournament last year, so Perry will be looking for a stronger showing. Carson has scored 70 or more points in five straight games. If the Cougars can get some stops, they’re a threat to beat anyone.

No. 6 West Rowan (4-4)
Championships: 11 (defending champs)
Runner-up: 5
All-time record in Moir: 58-43
Coach: Mike Gurley (19th season at West, 370-142)
Top players: Soph post man Caleb Mauldin is averaging 21.9 points. Guard Paris Hillie has topped 20 points three times. Austin Love, a UNC baseball commit, is a rebounding machine.
Outlook: Falcons lost tough ones to Carson and Davie, so they’ll be out for revenge. If Mauldin and Hillie play great, the Falcons have a shot at defending their title.

No. 7 East Rowan (1-9)
Championships: 2
Runner-up: 8
All-time record in Moir: 40-62
Coach: Kurt Misenheimer (1st year)
Top players: Senior Bravon Goodlett has been the most consistent. Freshman Brevin Goodlett is a future start. Austin Love (West also has an Austin Love) can shoot. If Naquis Caldwell is healthy enough to play, he instantly changes the battle on the boards. East’s been losing it.
Outlook: A 1-9 club isn’t going to win the tournament, but East could surprise some people.

No. 8 South Rowan (0-10)
Championships: 1
Runner-up: 10
All-time record in Moir: 46-61
Coach: Kurt Misenheimer (1st year)
Top players: Senior Tre Littlejohn has slashed effectively. Jaqwon Hester is a talented sophomore.
Outlook: Any win would be a good win.
