United Way closes campaign short of goal, hopes for more donations

The Rowan County United Way officially closed its 2015-16 campaign on Friday after raising about $1.73 million, or 86.3 percent of its $2 million goal.
But it’s not too late to help close the gap, campaign leaders say.
“We welcome any additional donations through year end to help our agencies meet the needs of our community,” board President Steve Fisher said in a news release.
“Our Executive Committee will convene in the new year to assess the campaign deficit and explore opportunities to mitigate the impact to our member agencies,” Fisher said. “I want to thank Penny Greer-Link for her leadership as chairman. She did an outstanding job leading one of the best organized campaigns in our history.”
Eleven of the campaign’s 13 divisions reported raising 100 percent or more of their goals
“The vast majority of the divisions exceeded their goals,” Greer-Link said in the news release. “I am very proud of that. The community supported our 16 agencies in a powerful way, but we still came up short. Although we have officially closed the campaign, I do hope we can still reduce the gap a bit more by taking contributions until year end.”
Anyone who would like to make a contribution can send it to Rowan County United Way, 1930 Jake Alexander Blvd W., Suite B, Salisbury, NC 28147-1186. The agency can be reached by phone at 704-633-1802 or on its website, rowanunitedway.org.
