U.S. Rep. Richard hudson says he’s running for re-election to continue being a conservative, common-sense voice for the 8th Congressional District.

Hudson, 44, became North Carolina’s 8th District representative in Congress in 2013. The district starts in Robeson County, stretches west to includes parts of Union and Mecklenburg County and covers much of southern and eastern Rowan County. Hudson filed on Dec. 1 for re-election. As of Wednesday afternoon, he doesn’t have any official competition. Hudson’s campaign has about $558,900 in cash on hand, according to the latest Federal Election Commission filings.

If re-elected, Hudson said he’ll continue to fight for a smaller, more limited federal government that provides good-paying jobs.

“As I travel across the district, I hear time and again from folks who are working harder than ever, but struggling to make ends meet because of the Obama administration’s top-down, big-government policies,” Hudson said in a statement announcing his re-election campaign.

In the statement Hudson cited an article from the National Journal, which rated him as the 12th month conservative member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the 113th Congress.

Hudson receive a degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1996. He worked in politics and briefly owned a marketing company before being elected to congress.

He has been a member of the Rowan-Cabarrus Community College Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors for the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association, Board of Managers of the West Cabarrus YMCa and the Board of Directors of the Cabarrus Jaycees.

Richard and his wife Renee live in Concord. They attend Crossroads Church.
