The Jubilee Choir annual Christmas concert is Sunday
“Were You There On That Christmas Night?” featuring the classically trained soprano Kia Baird as guest artist, will be presented at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. Also featured will be local artists and musicians Rebecca Stinson, Phyllis Partee, Doris Goodman and Monica Green. Other choir members represent nine different churches in the Salisbury, Greensboro and Winston-Salem areas. This concert marks nearly 50 years of continuous Christmas concerts to the Rowan-Salsibury community. It is a free concert and a love offering will be accepted. It will be held at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church, 306 N Church St.
Holly Jolly Christmas Show at the fairgrounds
On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and 13, the inaugural Holly Jolly Christmas Show premieres at the Rowan County Fairgrounds. This show brings an upscale shopping experience to Rowan County. Hours are 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $1 plus two canned goods or $3. Age 12 and under get in free. All food items will be donated to Faith Lutheran Church’s community food bank. Main Street Baptist Church’s women’s fellowship will be available for gift wrapping. Come on out and shop with 85+ craft and small business vendors, to include a winery, bakeries, and ministries. Enjoy some Christmas music, visit with Santa and Mrs. Clause, and face painting. The Rowan Big Band All Stars, an 18-piece jazz band featuring local musicians, will headline “Christmas In Swingtime,” a swing and jazz event open to the public, hosted by the First Presbyterian Church at 308 W. GOLD HILL — Montgomery General Store kicks off the Christmas celebrations this weekend on Thursday night, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. with the Efird Family Singers’ ‘Home for the Holidays’ Concert. The weekend of music continues on Friday night with the 7-9 p.m. Bluegrass Jam. Saturday afternoon musicians include “A Banjo Christmas” with Danny Bowers at 1 p.m., The Broadway Family at 2 p.m. and the Jordan River Band performing from 7-9 p.m. Saturday night. GOLD HILL — For all who come to the Historic Village of Gold Hill this Christmas, it is evident by the lights and décor that the season’s spirit is alive and well. This is especially true during Christmas in the Village event, Friday, Dec. 11 through Sunday, Dec. 13. Visitors will be treated to light refreshments, live music, Santa, Christmas storytelling and marshmallow roasting. Light refreshments will be served in the shops throughout the weekend. An old-fashioned Christmas story will be told by Fred Kessler, Gold Hill’s resident storyteller, Saturday and Sunday at the Little Log Cabin at 1 p.m. Live bluegrass and Christmas music throughout the village Friday and Saturday will put even the sourest Scrooge in the Christmas mood. On Sunday folks may roast marshmallows at the Arbor from 1-3 p.m. Santa will be here on Saturday and Sunday from noon-3 p.m. for photo ops, and Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Down South Café children may decorate a cupcake for $1 and snack with Santa. The Piedmont Singing Men, 43 musicians from 23 churches in the Concord/Kannapolis, Charlotte area, will perform in concert on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. The group, under the direction of Randy Childers, will tell a story using songs of the Christmas season. First SoFul Community Christmas Tree Lighting

Fulton St. at 6 p.m.: The SoFul Community of South Fulton Street will be having its first ever Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the community is invited.The Christmas open mic evening, featuring local musicians, will begin playing Christmas tunes at 5 p.m. During the tree lighting at 6 p.m. there will be Christmas songs performed by singer/songwriter Ashley Jo Farmer, who will also lead a carol sing-a-long during the lighting of the tree. Afterwards, Christmas open mic will continue. Hot chocolate will be available for purchase. WRHS band mans The Red Kettle for annual instrumental
On Sunday, Dec. 13, a group of high school band musicians from West Rowan High School will be volunteering their time for the annual instrumental for the Salvation Army Red Kettle. They will play at 2 p.m. in front of Old Navy. This is the fifth year in a row, and many students are returning from college to participate.

Local author to present book on Cabarrus County
KANNAPOLIS — Cabarrus County native and historian Michael Eury presents his newest book, “Legendary Locals of Cabarrus County,” the companion book to “Legendary Locals of Concord,” both from Arcadia Publishing. On Thursday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m., Eury will present images from historical archives, family collections and recent photographs and there will be some special guests present that are included in the book.
