A Kannapolis family escaped a fire that seriously damaged their home and vehicles Tuesday night.

According to a report from the Kannapolis Fire Department, they received a call at about 6:30 p.m. about a fire in the 400 block of Highland Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy fire involvement in the garage area extending into the living area as well as a nearby enclosed utility trailer.

All occupants had escaped the home. Firefighters worked to bring the fire under control and minimize the fire spread into the living area.

KFD was assisted by Concord and Landis fire departments as well as Cabarrus County EMS on the scene. Cold Water and Atwell fire departments assisted with city coverage. The home and vehicles in the garage sustained significant damage from the fire and the cause is under investigation.
