East Rowan’s girls lost 64-36 at unbeaten Hickory Ridge in SPC action on Tuesday. Stacia Means scored 25 points for the Ragin’ Bulls, and Gabby Smith had 18.
Shenique Pharr led the Mustangs (3-3, 1-3 SPC)with nine points. East shot 5-for-19 from the foul line.

Cox Mill swept a SPC doubleheader at South Rowan on Tuesday night, winning the girls game, 57-49, and the boys contest, 66-40.
Janiya Downs led the South girls (1-4, 1-3 SPC). with 23 points. Cox Mill improved to 3-2 and 3-1.
In the boys game, Colson Childers led the Raiders with 12 points. South is now 0-6 and 0-4 SPC. The Chargers improved to 6-0 and 4-0.

North Rowan’s girls lost 67-58 on Tuesday in a non-conference game with 4A R.J. Reynolds.

Davie County topped North Iredell, 72-67, in boys basketball action on Monday.
Davie (4-1) was led by Heath Slabach with 17 points and Corey Heiner with 15.
Justin Myers led North Iredell (1-4) with 19 points.

Davie’s girls beat North Iredell 57-45. Madison Zaferatos scored 23, and Ashlyn Hampton had 16.
Prep cross country
Carson senior Zachary Marchinko was named to the NC Runners All-State cross country first team.
Eight runners are on the first team, including Marchinko and Hickory Ridge’s Alex Cornwell.
Prep wrestling
West Rowan had three place-winners at the Indian Classic held at St. Stephens High in Hickory.
Lee Poteat (4-0) took first place at 195 pounds. He had a first-round bye and registered two pins. Tyler Nichols (8-1) placed second at 182 pounds. Freshman Alex Erazo (7-4) placed third at 170.
College basketball
Tre Williams (Carson) scored 14 points and David Tripp (A.L. Brown) had nine, as Davidson County Community College won 99-72 against Lenoir CC.
North Hills
North Hills varsity soccer and volleybal teams competed in the National Christian School Athletic Association tournaments.
Both won championships.
Colin Lewis and Collin Turner made the soccer all-tournament team.
Dajah Glenn and Sieria Eagle were named to the all-tournament volleyball team.

East Davidson’s 6-foot-2 Bayley Plummer signed with Appalachian State’s women’s basketball program.
She’s been a conference and district player of the year and has made All-State teams.
Hurley YMCA Warriors
The Hurley YMCA Warriors team placed second out of six teams, ages 9-10, in the AAU Cross Country Nationals held in Alabama.
The 9-10 team consists of Eli Julian, Triston Rabon, Connor Price, Jake Swicegood and Grayson Steedley.
Competing in the 9-10 race, Rabon finished 12th overall and was the top 9-year-old runner. He ran 11:12.9 in the 3K event.
Connor Price finished 21st in the race and was seventh among 9-year-olds in 11:40.7.
Julian, 10, finished ninth in 11:04.4.
Swicegood, 10, was 27th overall in 11:47.
Steedley, 9, ran 12:49.1. He was 71st overall and 24th among 9-year-olds.
Winning the championship was the Derby Athletic Club of Louisville, Ky, with a score of 47. The Hurley Y’s score was 54.
Prep basketball
Lavar Batts Jr. had 32 points in Robinson’s 84-59 SPC win against Northwest Cabarrus on Tuesday.
Jayvee basketball
West Rowan’s boys won 54-37 against Carson on Tuesday.
Tyrese Lawrence added 10 points for the Falcons.
Silas Wertz scored 12 for the Cougars.

Carson’s girls won 30-26 against West Rowan.
Taylor Harwood scored 10 for the Cougars. Montana Gurganious scored seven, and Sarah Musselwhite had six.
Defensive standouts for Carson were Nancy Gamewell and Sarah Christie.
Niaja Wilson scored 11 for the Falcons. Chantal Robinson had nine.
8th-grade hoops
West Rowan 37-36 in overtime against North Rowan.
Quay Weeks and Jay Joseph had 10 points each for West (6-1). Tykese Warren added nine points. Jalen Houston had 12 steals.
Chaz McCombs had 15 points for North.
The teams will play again Thursday at North.
Local golf
Fifty-four GARS members played a Captain’s Choice at Corbin Hills.
The first-place team with a minus-10 consisted of O.J. Chandler, Ed Lockhart, Everette Hancock and Clyde Crawford.
The second-place team with a minus-9 consisted of Gorden Correll, Paul Dombrowski, Dick Hatoway and Scott Hay.
The third-place teams with minus-8s consisted of Phil Cauble, David Scearce, Larry Luther and Larry Perrell; Johnny

Sacred Heart’s jayvee girls won 10-4 against Hickory Christian. Gianna Patella led with four points.
Sacred Heart’s jayvee boys lost 41-19 to Hickory Christian.
Finley Church had six points and six rebounds. Deuce Walker scored five.

Sacred Heart’s varsity boys fell to Hickory Christian 45-20. Juan Salazar scored six points. Blaine Shellhorn had five.

South Carolina State defensive lineman Javon Hargrave (North Rowan) and North Carolina A&T offensive lineman Brandon Parker (A.L. Brown) were named to the BOXTOROW All-America team for HBCU football.
