The field of candidates for local elected office grew by two on Thursday.
Rowan County Commissioner Mike Caskey filed for re-election and Andrew Poston, a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, filed for the 77th District seat in the NC House. Both are Republicans.
With the Caskey’s entrance into the Rowan County Board of Commissioners race, both incumbents have officially filed for re-election. Poston’s filing makes 77th District race competitive. Incumbent State Rep. Harry Warren filed for re-election on Tuesday.
Caskey, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, is running for his second term on the Rowan County Board of Commissioners. Caskey lives in the Enochville area. He previously served on the Rowan-Salisbury school board and Rowan County Planning Board. So far Caskey and Rowan County Commissioner Craig Pierce, who filed for re-election on Tuesday, don’t have any challengers in the March 2016 Republican primary.
Poston is trying his hand at running for political office for the first time. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and is studying for a master’s degree in teaching at UNCC.
Warren and Poston will face off in the Republican primary.
