Benefit concert Sunday for two local teens fighting cancer
Local artists will perform a benefit concert for two local teens fighting cancer, Robert Stephan Gilmore and Jalisa Gladden. The concert will be held Sunday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 207 W. Harrison St. The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering taken for the two children, Robert Stephen Gilmore and Jalisa Gladden, who will receive the entire offering. Artists planning to perform include Rebecca Stinson, Virginia Rush, Teresa Moore-Mitchell and Will McCray. All performing artists are donating their time and talent. Open auditions for ‘Cabaret” — casting dancers/singers/actors
Piedmont Players Theatre is holding auditions for the Tony Award-winning musical “Cabaret” on Dec. 14 and 15 at 6 p.m. Callbacks will be held on Saturday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Directed/choreographed by Tod A. Kubo, musically directed by Michael Wilkins, with set design by Reid Leonard. Rehearsals begin in January and performances run from March 10-19, 2016. Strong male and female dancers/singers with strong jazz dance skills. Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to audition. Performer should prepare 16 bars from a song in the style of the show. Must bring sheet music. Please wear fitted clothing. Bring jazz or character shoes. Note: Auditions are by appointment. 44th annual Cleveland Christmas parade

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Lions Club will sponsor the 44th annual Cleveland Christmas parade, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m.
The Cleveland Christmas parade has been an annual event since the first one in 1972. It has always showcased local folks and activities. Entries are accepted in regular, religious, antique (auto, truck, and tractor), commercial, king/queen, humorous, and horse categories. Our parade still allows horses (which will be positioned behind the marching entries), and we still allow candy to be tossed (small, individually-wrapped pieces, and no lollypops). Previous parade attendance has been estimated between 2,000 and 3,000 spectators, mostly Cleveland, Woodleaf and Mt. Ulla residents. The parade will start at the previous West Rowan YMCA building and travel west towards highway 70 and Freightliner.
There is no “rain date.” In case of bad weather (heavy rain, extreme cold), the strong of heart will continue. Join us if you can!
The deadline for entry is Monday, Nov. 30. We would love to have lots of entries!

Old Courthouse Theatre holds auditions for Grisham’s ‘A Time to Kill’
Carl Lee’s 10-year-old daughter was brutally raped. He killed the two men who did it. Now it is the job of Jake Brigance to defend Carl on capital murder charges. In 1984 Mississippi what is justice when a black man kills two white rapists? The town is divided between the Klan and the NAACP, with the National Guard between them in the street. But the real battle is in the courtroom, between Jake and the District Attorney, for Carl Lee’s life. “A Time To Kill,” based on the novel by John Grisham, is rated PG-13.
