The Salisbury City Council will consider awarding revitalization grants to two companies moving operations into buildings in the Salisbury area.

The council will meet on Nov. 17 at 4 p.m.

The council will consider awarding an Industrial Revitalization Building Program Grant to Bonded Logistics, Inc. for a property at 906 Airport Road.

Bonded Logistics is a third-party logistics company that provides supply chain management solutions.

The one-time grant for $25,000 will be given for renovations to the property that will allow the company to expand its operations and create 17 new positions to keep up with its growth.

The company recently leased the space at 906 Airport Road in the former Alcoa building. The building is a 288,000-square-foot multi-tenant facility, according to a memo from Executive Director of RowanWorks Robert Van Geons.

The renovations to the building include a new fire suppression system, new ramps, plumbing repairs and new stairs.

The total cost for the renovations is projected to be at least $578,000.

The council will also consider giving an Industrial Revitalization Grant to JP Industrial Products for the same amount.

The nationwide plastics recycling company will use the grant to make its newly purchased building on 1114 Old Concord Road more suitable for operations. The building will allow for the employment of 20 individuals.

The renovations include exterior and interior painting, new flooring and office and break room improvements.

The renovation is projected to cost at least $100,000.

Some of the goals of the Industrial Revitalization Program are to encourage projects that will help improve underutilized corridors, encourage new and existing businesses to locate in older and less functional, vacant buildings and enhance, upgrade and stabilize vacant properties.

The council will also consider:

• Adopting a resolution to seek permission to apply for Community Transportation Program funding and enter into an agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to provide the necessary certification and the required local match.
• Rezoning the former Christian Science Building on West Liberty Street.
• Approval for the city clerk and city manager to enter into a third-party agreement with NCDOT and SBBHAK, LLC concerning the construction and reimbursement of the section of Newsome Road Extension between Faith Road and East Innes Street.
