Jared Barber (Davie) had a game-turning 42-yard fumble return for a touchdown in West Virginia’s 38-20 win against Texas on Saturday. Barber also had six tackles.

S.C. State’s Javon Hargrave (North Rowan) had 3 sacks, plus another tackle for loss, in Saturday’s 10-7 win against Norfolk State.

Domonique Noble (West Rowan) made five tackles for Georgia Tech in Thursday’s 23-21 loss to Virginia Tech.

In North Carolina’s 59-21 romp against Miami, Damien Washington (A.L. Brown) had two catches for 22 yards and Romar Morris (Salisbury) had three carries for 13 yards.

Charleston’s John Knox (Salisbury) made two interceptions in a 59-7 win against Virginia-Wise. Wise returned those picks for 44 yards. He halso had three breakups and three tackles.
Charleston (10-1) earned a bid to the D-II playoffs.

Emmanuel Gbunblee (West Rowan) made six tackles, including one for loss, in Saturday’s 65-32 loss to Carson-Newman.

Calvin Edwards (East Rowan) carried nine times for 69 yards in Saturday’s loss to Catawba.

Kyrell Williamson (A.L. Brown) made eight tackles to help Winston-Salem State beat Bowie State 17-14 in the CIAA championship game.

Dontae Gilbert (Carson) made five tackles for Averett in a 44-13 loss to Huntingdon.

Guilford’s Adam Smith (Davie) had 15 catches for 132 yards and two TDs in a 41-30 win against Emory & Henry.
Devin Mason (South Rowan) had a sack for a 6-yard loss for the Quakers (9-1).
Women’s basketball
The college career of UNC Pembroke freshman Avery Locklear (South Rowan) got off to a fast start.
Locklear scored 16 points in a 67-62 win against Division I Campbell and had 12 in a loss to D-I UNC Wilmington. She came off the bench in both exhibition games. She hit four 3s against UNC Wilmington.

Morehead State’s Shay Steele (West Rowan) had six points, seven rebounds and six blocks in Friday’s 104-101 loss to Marshall.
Steele had a career-high 34 points and 13 rebounds in just 24 minutes in Saturday’s 121-91 win against Kentucky Christian and helped Morehead State break the school scoring record.

Fayetteville State’s Doreen Richardson (Salisbury) scored a team-high 19 points in Friday’s 70-47 win against Concord. Richardson had 19 points and six rebounds in Saturday’s 78-63 loss to Fairmont State.

Cassidy Chipman (South Rowan) had seven points and seven rebounds for St. Andrews in a 61-48 loss to Methodist.

Lynchburg’s Alex Allen (Carson) and UNC Asheville’s Kelli Fisher (East Rowan) scored their first college points on Friday.
Amani Ajayi (East Rowan) had a successful debut for Averett on Saturday.
Karleigh Wike (East Rowan) started Friday’s opener for Richmond. Wike had four assists and three rebounds in Sunday’s 81-62 win against Eastern Kentucky.
