STATESVILLE — Iredell County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a Statesville man with more than six dozen sex crimes.
Shawn Patrick Phillips, 42, of the 100 block of Abruzzel Lane, was arrested late last week on 74 counts of felony statutory rape and two counts of felony sex offenses. He was booked into the Iredell County Detention Center under a $1 million secured bond. Phillips remained in jail Tuesday afternoon.
A news release from the Iredell Sheriff’s Office alleges the sex acts started in July 2012 and ended in August 2015. Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell in a news release said the incident was reported on Nov. 3. Phillips allegedly had sex with the underage female at his house.
The news release further states the victim was 13, 14 or 15 years old. She is no longer in the hospital and was interviewed by sheriff’s deputies at the Dove House Child Advocacy Center, which serves child victims of sexual abuse and non-offending family members in Iredell and Alexander counties.
Warrants for Phillips were issued following multiple interviews, including with the victim and witnesses.
