Area Athletes Update: Bostian, Fink shine in meet

Area Athletes Update ..
Cross Country
In Western Carolina’s Fast Cat Invitational, WCU’s Jordan Bostian (West Rowan) finished eighth in a 5K, while UNC Asheville’s Jacob Fink (Carson) placed 12th.
Bostian ran 16:02, while Fink ran 16:13.
Western Carolina won the event, while UNC Asheville placed second.
Fink has recovered from a tendon injury that sidelined him most of his senior year at Carson and most of his freshman year at UNC Asheville.

Football
Linebacker Kyrell Williamson (A.L. Brown) made the interception Saturday that sealed the CIAA’s Southern Division championship for Winston-Salem State and a 24-22 win against Fayetteville State.
Daveon Perry (A.L. Brown) had 66 yards in kick returns for the Rams.

In Catawba’s 24-6 win at Tusculum, Mark McDaniel (South Rowan) made six tackles and broke up a pass.
Jamal Lackey (Davie) made three tackles for the Indians.

Averett’s Dontae Gilbert (Carson) made 10 tackles in a 31-28 overtime win against Ferrum.
Averett’s Hobie Proctor (West Rowan) averaged 37.8 yards on four punts and 52.0 yards on five kickoffs.

Lenoir-Rhyne’s Calvin Edwards (East Rowan) ran five times for 56 yards in a 27-0 win against Brevard.
Edwards had a 31-yard carry.

South Carolina State’s Javon Hargrave (North Rowan) made three tackles in South Carolina State’s 9-6 loss to North Carolina A&T on Saturday.

Quentin Sifford (West Rowan) made eight tackles for West Liberty in a 41-14 loss to Glenville State.

Limestone’s Logan Stoodley (West Rowan) had two tackles, one for a 4-yard loss, in a 47-7 loss to Newberry.

In Saturday’s 56-21 Senior Day win against Alderson-Broaddus, senior safety John Knox (Salisbury) made six tackles. Johnny Delahoussaey (A.L. Brown) had three catches for 93 yards and had a 31-yard TD catch.

UNC’s Romar Morris (Salisbury) had one catch for 6 yards and one carry for 2 yards in the Tar Heels’ 66-31 romp against Duke.

Jared Barber (Davie) made seven tackles in West Virginia’s 31-26 win against Texas Tech.

Michael Church (A.L. Brown) was 2-for-3 passing for 50 yards as Coastal Carolina rolled 46-0 against Gardner-Webb.
Virginia’s Keeon Johnson (A.L. Brown) had two catches for 26 yards in a 27-21 loss to Miami.

Charlotte’s Kalif Phillips rushed 21 times for 78 yards and caught three passes for 15 yards in a 48-31 loss to Florida International.
Najee Tucker (West Rowan) made four tackles for the 49ers.

Guilford’s Adam Smith (Davie) had nine catches for 105 yards as the Quakers (8-1) beat Hampden-Sydney for the first time since 1999.
It was the sixth 100-yard game of the season for Smith.

Men’s Basketball
In Davidson County Community College’s 128-88 win against Limestone, David Tripp (A.L. Brown) scored 13 points for the Storm. Tre Williams (Carson) scored six.

Kelly Dulkoski (Carson) had five points and two assists in Kennesaw State’s 63-46 win against Emory.

Freshman Cassidy Chipman (South Rowan) got off to a good start for St. Andrews. She had eight rebounds in a loss to Warren Wilson and made two 3-pointers in a romp against Mid-Atlantic Christian.

Women’s Swimming
In a meet in Blacksburg, Va., Queens competed against Richmond and Virginia Tech. Sophomore McKenzie Stevens (Salisbury) was seventh in the 200 butterfly and eighth in the 200 freestyle and 500 free.
