Vampire author visiting on Halloween; poetry reading Tuesday

E.B. Hood, author of the series “Melabeth the Vampire,” will be at Literary Bookpost on Saturday, Oct. 31 for a scary afternoon.

With three books in the series, Hood is living out his late brother Nick’s dream to be a writer. Nick died of a brain tumor,  but always wanted to write.

The first book, “Melabeth, the Vampire” is a sometimes violent tale of a girl who is abused, raped and murdered. She wakes up 15 years later as a vampire. This book, Hood says, is about revenge.

“Melabeth: Forgive Me, For I Am Sin!” is about how vengeance turns to villainy.  Melabeth finds the sweet feeling of revenge turning bitter as she is pursued by an evil force.

The third book, “Melabeth: Purification by Fire,” is about second chances. Melabeth learns to forgive and love, but is again faced with challenges.

Hood worked in several industries, but fell victim to repeated layoffs. He took time to care for his brother, then became a stay-at-home father to his daughter.

He started writing and calls himself a storyteller more than a writer, and feels like he has paid homage to his brother.

His oldest son is now in the Army. His second son he calls his biggest fan and sounding board. His family helps him with his books.

Hood will sign books fron noon to 2 p.m.
