Businesses, institutions and individuals are being invited to bring or send their worn, tattered or otherwise unserviceable flags for a dignified disposal in keeping with national ceremonial protocol standards.

The public is invited to view the colorful ceremony as the flags are retired in a way outlined by the National Flag Act of 1923. Unless there is inclement weather, the ceremony will be held outdoors.

In another Legion-related matter, the Harold B. Jarrett Post is collecting clean, serviceable clothing for men and women. The clothing will be distributed by the Hefner VA Medical Center.

The Legion post asked that clothing donations be brought in plastic bags to the post headquarters on Lincolnton Road between 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday.
