“Tribute to Integrity,” the unveiling of Robert Toth’s sculpted portrait of the great Nikola Tesla (1856 – 1943), the man who changed the world, will be celebrated at Fine Frame Gallery, 105 S. Main St., on Friday, Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. This work, the latest in Toth’s Genius Series & Masters Busts collection, was two years of research and development in the making. These are 10 of his inventions out of hundreds: alternating current, flourescent light, x-rays, radio, remote control, electric motor, robotics, lasers, wireless communicaitons, limitless free energy.
20th annual Mustang Classic is Saturday
Saturday, Oct. 17, the East Rowan Mustang Regiment will be hosting the 20th Annual Mustang Classic. There will be 18 bands competing and East Rowan in exhibition at the festival at East Rowan High School. The National Anthem will be at 3:45 p.m. with the first band taking the field at 4 p.m. Awards will take place at 9:45 p.m.
Meyer Sherman exhibit opening
Center for Faith & the Arts, 207 W. Harrison St., will host an opening reception for the exhibit of the Meyer Sherman collection that inludes watercolor paintings, fashions and fabrics. Several of the works are from the private collection of the family. The reception is Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Broadway blockbuster returns to Ovens

Cappella Concord
CONCORD — Choral singers of all voices are invited to audition from 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19 for the new choral group Cappella Concord. This choral venture is dedicated to the study and interpretation of a cappella (unaccompanied) music. Its seasoned choral singers, from throughout the Charlotte region, are expected to learn the music on their own in advance, then assemble the performance program on two consecutive weekends of rehearsals. Auditions will be at 15-minute intervals, held at Sharon United Methodist Church, 4411 Sharon Road, Charlotte (across from SouthPark Mall). Appointments are required. Cappella Concord’s next concert is scheduled for Jan. 31, 2016, in Charlotte and Concord. Rehearsals will be Jan. 22-23 and Jan. 29-30. Its first pair of concerts Sept. 20 raised money for charities in Charlotte and Concord. Marc Williams-Hull is the group’s founder and the music director is Cathy Youngblood.
Jeff Whittington Bluegrass Show at the Davis Theatre
PICS CONCORD — Local favorite Jeff Whittington will be bringing his bluegrass band back to the Davis Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m.

The Davis Theatre is located at 65 Union St. S, Concord, in the Historic Cabarrus County Courthouse. The Jeff Whittington Bluegrass Show is an evening of traditional bluegrass featuring a quintet of outstanding musicians: Whittington, Pete Corum, John Culbreath, Mike Wood and Jason Wood.
