With new sex charges, man now under $3 million bond

Michael Thomas Chambers, 65, of Statesville, who already faces 106 sexual assault charges, has been charged with an additional 48 counts.

Another victim filed a new report with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, who was an elementary school student at the time of the alleged abuse, was interviewed along with witnesses concerning the new allegations.

She stated that Chambers had been a family friend, and she was around him frequently as a child. During many of those times, she stated, Chambers would sexually assault her. As a result of the investigation, Chambers, of the 1000 block of Turnersburg Highway, Statesville, was charged with an additional 48 counts of first-degree sexual offense with a child by an adult offender.

Chambers now faces a total of 154 counts of first-degree sexual offenses involving three victims. Chambers was arrested Sept. 21, and given a bond of $2 million on the new charges with a court date of Sept. 22. Now his total bond on all charges is $3 million.
