Florida man charged with rape, child sex offenses

A Florida man arrested Sunday in Rowan County is charged with 27 counts of child sex offenses.

John Edward Reese, 33, of the 1000 block of Wayne Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., is charged with one count of first-degree rape, nine counts of indecent liberties with a child and 18 counts of first degree sex offense against a child.

The charges allege that at least two children were victimized in incidents taking place between 2008 and 2012.

In addition, Reese is charged with a probation violation.

The Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement website lists Reese as a registered sex offender, with a previous conviction in 1999 for a second-degree sexual offense against a minor in Buncombe County.

Reese was placed under $600,000 bond. His first appearance in Rowan County District Court is set for Tuesday.
