Where is my police protection?

I see that the Salisbury Police wasted no time apprehending someone for the robbery of persons who traverse near the campus of Catawba College.

I called the Salisbury Police to report the theft of a bicycle from the front porch — leaving a voice message on the Captain of Operation’s phone — and never received a call back. Incidentally, two more bikes have been taken since I called.

I am a full-time resident of the city. Do I not deserve the protection afforded to part-time residents? My property was “robbed” also.

I live in the historic district — the historically unprotected district.

Rowan Museum Vietnam War exhibit a hit

If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit the Rowan Museum’s new Vietnam War exhibit titled “Tour of Duty,” please put this on your must see list!

Rowan Museum Director Kay Hirst and President Terry Holt and their volunteer committee have done a masterful job in bringing to life one of the most important periods in the past 50-year history of our country.

In recognition of the 50th anniversary and commemoration of the Vietnam War, the exhibit serves as a historical tribute to our Vietnam veterans. Every citizen, and especially our children and grandchildren, need to see and experience one of the most incredible times in our country’s history.

Over 58,000 American troops, including many from Rowan County who are remembered in the exhibit, gave the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of freedom. The exhibit will be open on weekends through May of next year.
