East Spencer to rename Nash Street in honor of Essie Mae Foxx
EAST SPENCER — The town of East Spencer will rename Nash Street later today in honor of longtime resident and supporter of the Dunbar Center, Essie Mae Foxx.
Foxx is a native of East Spencer and president of the Dunbar Mass Reunion Committee. She’s also championed for the reunion event for two decades. The 20th reunion events begin today and will end on Sunday.
Granddaughter LaSheka Foxx Walker made the request earlier this week of the board during its regular meeting and the board approved to rename the street.
A ceremony will take place at Nash and Long streets at 3 p.m. today.
