The Zionettes 58th anniversary

LINWOOD — This evening at 6 p.m. The Zionettes of Union Chapel AME Zion Church will be celebrating their 58th anniversary as well as the life of their founder and president, Edna Griffin. Union Chapel AME Zion Church is located at 4329 Sowers Road. The pastor is the Rev. Dairl Scott Jr.

Gethsemane Missionary Baptist’s  Men’s Choir

The Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church Men’s Choir will sing at the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist 17th anniversary celebration on Sunday at 4 p.m. at 719 South Caldwell St. The celebration will feature the Gethsemane’s Men’s choir, The Heirs of Salvation and other invited guests. The Rev. Dr. Clary L. Phelps is the pastor. Eugene Nunn is president of the Men’s Choir and Thelma Cuthbertson serves as Minister of Music.

 

The New Voices of Faith to sing

The New Voices of Faith of Mocksville will be the guest of honor for a musical appreciation service at Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Henderson Grove Church Road on Sunday at 3 p.m. Admission is free.

The program is sponsored by Durham radio personality Sister Elise Venable. All donations will benefit Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church. There will be great gospel quartet singing featuring Thelma Bass & The Faithfulaires of Durham, Anthony McCray of Durham, The Disciple Aires of Danville, Va., Little Tony & The Magnificents of Durham, and The Mighty Tenorneers of Burlington.

175th anniversary at historic St. Andrew’s

WOODLEAF — On Sunday, the 175th anniversary of the consecration of Historic St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Woodleaf will be celebrated at the annual homecoming service at 11:15 a.m. A covered dish lunch will follow at Unity Presbyterian Church, 885 Woodleaf Barber Road. The service will be conducted by The Right Rev. Anne Elliott Hodges-Copple, Bishop Suffragan of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, assisted by Rev. Jane Holmes, Regional Deacon.

Rev. Hodges-Copple was elected sixth Bishop Suffragan and the first female bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina in 2013 and was consecrated in Duke Chapel on the campus of Duke University. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University , earned her Master of Divinity from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, Calif., and was ordained to the priesthood in 1988 and served as assistant to the rector at St. Luke’s, Durham, until 1992 and as Episcopal chaplain to Duke University until 2005, when she returned to St. Luke’s as rector. Bishop Hodges-Copple will serve as Bishop Pro Tem beginning November 1, 2015, when Bishop Michael Curry will be installed as the 27th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church in America.

Northgate’s women’s Bible study begins

Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival coming to Mocksville

MOCKSVILLE — The Carolina Bible Camp Bluegrass Festival takes place Sept. 12 at 1988 Jericho Church Road. Sierra Hull is headlining America’s only bluegrass festival that promotes Bible study, camping and wholesome recreation. The line-up also includes the Snyder Family Band, Luthier Wayne Henderson and flatpicker Clay Lunsford, and Tim White and the VW Boys from the PBS program Song of the Mountains.

KANNAPOLIS — Living Water Church of God will host a health event through Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings.
