West Rowan band holds fundraiser

West Rowan High School bands struggle each year to raise enough money to run an important and core educational program. Funding provided through the state and district barely covers classroom supplies, leaving many other needs neglected. Two of the biggest needs are uniforms and reliable transportation for the band equipment.

In an effort to take care of one of those needs, West Rowan High School’s Band Boosters is raffling off a 2014 New Holland “Rustler” utility terrain vehicle, which can be used for agriculture needs, outdoor chores or just some good, plain fun.

There are only 1,000 tickets, and they will be sold by band members and band parents, as well as at the band booster tent at home football games. Tickets are $20 each, and every sixth ticket is free.

The drawing will be held Dec. 1 at halftime of West Rowan High School’s varsity boys basketball game.

 

Cannon School opens 2015-16 year with record enrollment

Cannon School opened its school year on Aug. 17 with the largest student body in the school’s history.

Over the summer, construction was completed on a dining hall expansion as well as a renovated middle school space. This space includes a science lab, multi-purpose space, and a brand-new “ThinkTank” room that features 3-D printers, robotics, circuitry and hardware to help integrate science and technology with the arts.
