A Salisbury man found inside a historic home was charged Tuesday with breaking and entering. Police on patrol checking the Bernhardt home on East Innes Street found the man inside.

Salisbury Police charged Patrick Tremayne Imes, Jr., 22, whose address is listed as the streets of Salisbury, with misdemeanor breaking and entering and issued him a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia.

An officer checked the door of the home, 305 E. Innes St., just after midnight and found the door open. The officer announced himself and walked inside the home. Inside he came across Imes. The officer informed Imes no one was supposed to be inside.

Imes told the officer he saw the no trespassing sign on the front door. Officials say it appeared Imes was inside the home trying to find a place to sleep. He had a marijuana smoking pipe on him, which was confiscated by police.
