Area Sports Briefs: Salisbury soccer 2-0

Landon Goodman scored three second-half goals to lead Salisbury to a 6-0 victory against South Rowan on Thursday.
Melvin Bonilla, Ahmedin Salcinovic and Matt Washko scored a goal each for the Hornets (2-0). Assists were credited to Washko, Bonilla, Nick Veros, Reilly Gokey and Christian Uribe.
“Overall I feel as if we took a bit of a step back tonight,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “We are having a difficult time understanding our roles and connecting as a team. I credit some of that to South, but I feel as if a great deal of our issues are internal. We have little time to work on it though. School starts on Monday and perennial power Trinity comes for a visit Monday night.
Salisbury’s jayvees will open the doubleheader with Trinity with a 5 p.m game.The varsity teams will play at 6:30 p.m.

Prep volleyball
Carson won at Lake Norman 30-28, 21-25,25-20 and 25-19 on Thursday for its third straight victory.

Jayvee football
Salisbury’s jayvee football team opened Thursday with a 35-18 loss at West Montgomery.
Tyrone Johnson had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Trell Baker had scoring runs of 64 and 3 yards.
Laveric Johnikin and Johnson recovered fumbles.

Intimidators
The Savannah Sand Gnats extended their South Atlantic League-best winning streak to 16 games with a 6-2 win over the Intimidators on Thursday at Grayson Stadium.
Kannapolis dropped its third straight game.
Savannah scored four runs in the bottom of the third for a 4-1 lead.
Kannapolis relievers Jacob Morris and Ryan Riga combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Intimidators came into Thursday’s game hang been shutout in back-to-back contests against Asheville but snapped the team’s scoreless inning streak with a run in the third.
The Intimidators continue the four-game series on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
