Staff report
Salisbury opened the boys soccer season with a 9-0 victory at Ludwig Stadium against the East Rowan Mustangs.
The two squads vary drastically in experience. A veteran Salisbury squad was able to capitalize quickly on mistakes and took control of the contest early.
Salisbury has 10 seniors back from a 20-5 team, while nearly half of East’s team is freshmen. The Hornets hope to add to their streak of 11 consecutive Central Carolina Conference championships.
“East was tough, fought until the end and will be a team to be reckoned with in the near future,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said.
Landon Goodman scored three goals to lead the Hornets. Melvin Bonilla and Christian Uribe had two goals each, while Andrew Kalogeromitros and Arturo Ramirez added a goal apiece.
Joshua Lynch had four assists. Andrew Kalogeromitros had two assists. Kevin Flores, Matt Washko and Goodman had one helper each.
Ramirez and freshman Josh Faulkner combined for the shutout in goal.
Next up for the Hornets is a home contest against improved South Rowan on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
